@bms48 @ohir @Andres4NY @KathyReid Oh neat! I didn't know about the ZeroMQ option. I'd just seen https://librecast.net/ recently. In addition to the technically challenges there's also the social challenges of getting a bunch of organizations to try and support something difficult.

    @alienghic @ohir @Andres4NY @KathyReid Multicast routing is complicated even just for a small ISP or carrier network topology. I have the luck of having to refactor a C++ implementation written by one of the original instigators of the first PIM-SM at USC in the USA. I was in fact reading what development documentation he'd managed to write for it this very evening. He now works for Google so he's probably not able to assist freely. We worked on the same team in the 00s and I have not seen him

    @alienghic @ohir @Andres4NY @KathyReid Just about everything about computer networking and telecomms is fair game for me, it's what I ended up spending my life doing, and I ended up getting a PhD in it in the end, not that it necessarily made my life easier, but that's a whole big ball of other beeswax. I have a slight personal aversion to power structures based on dominance and worker exploitation...
