@tuomas_h I wonder if “iTunes is too bloated” was just a narrative that took on its own life at some point. Using it today, I feel like even iTunes 12 was pretty well thought out. At the same time, the Music app is basically as particular in many ways and definitely just as heavy, however it is rarely described as bloated (but deservedly for its long list of other issues). Also even with all the problems, iTunes/Music get way too much crap compared to Mac Podcasts/TV imo

    @zhcet @tuomas_h I remember iTunes being very slow in that era. The user interface was good, but user perception of bloat is easily triggered when performance is bad.

    @zhcet Yeah I mostly agree with that. They did an okay job integrating things, but I do think some of this sentiment came from that their strategy was seemingly “oh we’ll just put it in iTunes” even when the new functionality had not much to do with the core purpose of the app. It just had drifted quite far from what it stood for. And yes, the crazy thing is, things didn’t improve when they split iTunes up into different apps.
