It's also my idea to combine both highlight and note taking. It's going to involve an extra click (color + save) but I think it's ok.
This is a very early design test

@readeck This is perfect, and pretty much what I had in mind. One question though: what if don’t want to highlight? I’m assuming I can also not select any colour.
