@readeck @ruben I think something along the lines of the Kindle UI is a good starting point. A row of highlight colours above with a note box beneath. Therefore: select text → highlight+note box pops up → both are optional, so you can use a highlight or a note or both, all tied to the same text. This doesn’t allow notes ‘at a point’ but it should be a fair trade-off to have to select some text at least in order to attach a note. Unattached notes are less useful, but better than no notes!
