Sooooooo I removed my shower screen (hate those things), but in the process I got a little overzealous and broke a tile 😬🫠 How hard is it to replace a tile? Do I have to replace the whole thing or can I just cut a tidy shape and fit a new tile in there? #diy

In hindsight I should have been satisfied just to get the glass panel out and dealt with the rest later. Ah, well.

@pewterbaw@mastodon.scot from watching multiple attempts by a couple of relatives, I'd say it's not as easy as one might hope to replace shower or bath tiles. Uh, hmm, is that black stuff mold?

@pewterbaw@mastodon.scot you can cut a tile and put it in with mortar. You can also just fill the hole with mortar. Just need to find a tile that matches. Cutting tile isn't the hardest thing, but it's usually done with special diamond saws that run water over the blade the whole time. For hobby projects, you can get away with a dremel and a diamond bit, but the water is pretty necessary.

@pewterbaw@mastodon.scot I see two broken tiles with quite complex shapes that you would first have to cut into something more regular. Easiest solution would be to take them out and put new ones in.
