@elsactivitypub @darkphoenix fun fact: all trams in vienna run on 1435mm gauge too. if not for the voltage, tighter turns, and smaller extent of the routes, different signaling, and I think the rail profile might be different, you could absolutely put a railjet on the tram network
…I genuinely think it might be possible to put a siemens desiro classic (diesel, and a generally small and short train) on tram tracks, as long as you can turn off signaling

@_r@donotsta.re @elsactivitypub@goto.freakstic.fr the main issue is probably that the wheel profiles between trams and trains are substantially different, requiring different switches etc. For lines that run tram trains (i.e. trams that run on mainline rail) weird compromises need to be made that kind of but don't quite work for either
