While there will be a small amount of quality loss, the imager on the DVCAM is so much better than on the Digital8 that I think it's still an improvement in video quality over using the Digital8 camcorder directly. And the S-Video connection is reliable enough for me to handhold the camera, which I can't do with a DV connection. @CatgirlEva
