I'm not much of a capital-A-Art connoisseur, but I've always sort of vaguely thought of Picasso as pretentious. I'm unsure where that opinion originated (probably osmosis), but spending two days around his work has completely dissuaded me of the notion. "Girl With a Mandolin" might be one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever seen, and that the same person painted "Le Moulin de la Galette" is just stunning. May all of our art grow and change from beauty to beauty in its own way.

  • Each of the main post impressionists have their unique vision brought to their work. They weren't necessarily nice, or sane, or not full of themselves, though. Those qualities enter their work interesting ways.
