In the end there is no escaping the general politics that inform the makers of things. The makers of computer hardware and software have a mixture of: 1) the worst, fascist surveillance state politics 2) "ordinary" predatory capitalist politics 3) poorly thought out personal-freedom within the state politics that goes within the US by the propaganda name "libertarian"

  • There needs to be a flatly anarchist computer-maker system, implemented by people who have thought about why the state does not and will not guarantee anyone's freedom and who also don't trust individual-heroic self-chosen avatars of technology to make solutions for everyone either.

@richpuchalsky Well, I've always imagined that we'd have a single machine that was connected to the "Internet" that had zero personal data and was quarantined from the *real* Internet, which was a localized, federated web of invited, likeminded folks on an EE2E network, with mirrored Wikipedia etc on shared servers, powered by solar/battery array. Probably because I know just enough to have silly dreams, but not enough to know if something is possible.
