Cats are excellent trainers.

I’ve trained my cats to come to a dinner bell. Now, instead of yelling at me for food, the youngest cat has figured out how to ring the door chimes when he’s hungry. On the plus side, if my cats ever accidentally get outside, the bell is loud enough to hear across the neighborhood, so I can summon them. Edit: The bell in question, since everybody always thinks I use a different kind of bell.

Cats are weird. One time I couldn't find my two cats. Turns out they were in the trash can, and taking a nap. So I dumped wet cold spaghetti in the trash. Never found them in the trash again.

Reminds me of how my inlaws trained their dog to bark incessantly by giving him treats to stop him from barking.

I've tried negative reinforcement for our cat that INSISTS upon rushing into the coat closet the moment he hears it open. Ignoring him, locking him in, giving him lectures on extremely dry subject material - no effect. At least he doesn't expect treats afterwards.

Why not open another drawer first and have cat stay there until it's safe, and then ask?
