@WiredForFlight that wasn’t a quiet time at all however. My home airport of EDNY has one controller usually, because we don’t have many movements, and it’s completely fine then. During times when it gets as busy as LGA was that day (only during AERO), we have at least three controllers, and that’s for daytime operations. One of these arguably performs what would probably a director in the US. But then again: EDNY has a single runway, one parallel taxiway and then six holding points.

    @WiredForFlight I stand corrected: We always have two ATCOs on shift. If there’s fewer than two available, there’s a PPR regulation put into place. That is arrivals AND departures.
