...leaving women with getting approached to an even greater degree by men who don't _get_ that. Thus confirming their bias and continuing the spiral.
At this point, I know of no-one who has any idea how to walk back the great and widening chasm between genders. It's heartbreaking.

The vast majority of men out there aren't POS. The vast majority of evening and nighttime walks aren't dangerous. Yet women are scared AF to walk at night to the point where they feel they need to be armed, and that the average guy is worse than the bear. Decent guys didn't get us into this, and we're damned well incapable of getting us out.
