@christineburns@mastodon.green Good news. I was reading about the idea of when there's a glut of energy from renewables, encouraging people & businesses to use it Very onboard with this idea even if means roasting at odd times of the day (usually morning but I imagine mid-afternoon after hours of sun will be the key times). I already use the Octopus low-carbon forecaster which is usually after 11am and before 3pm. But a network of businesses who promise to help the grid and do their intensive energy tasks at low carbon thinners would probably be good for indie small business.

  • @roastinghouse I don’t think the mainstream reports make clear enough that this is old news for many. Large industrial users are used to being incentivised to either turn down or turn up as requested by the grid operator. Meanwhile Octopus has provided smart time of use tariffs to millions of consumers for at least the last 2-3 years. I accept this might be news to customers of the other major suppliers, whose efforts to date have been very conservative. Still, it’s good news.
