In our April Fool's post I joked about implementing a 1-bit color mode, so it's fitting the first new file format import support I'd work on would be 1-bit as well! MacPaint was released in 1984 on the first Macintosh PC. As you can see, it was black and white only - a neat historical format. The plug-in still needs some polish and error-handling, but it works well on my test images so far.

@CmykStudent I've still got my 1980s CD player which features the Philips TDA1547 1-bit digital-to-analogue converter.

@CmykStudent I've made some 1bit art before, I wouldn't mind a 1-bit mode! I think a lot of illustrators making images in black and white wouldn't mind either. In Photoshop they call this Bitmap mode. It would actually be a very helpful feature, I think a lot of people would appreciate it! It could go in the Mode swap menu (which if I remember right is how Photoshop does it too). https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/desktop/adjust-color/color-modes/convert-an-image-to-bitmap-mode.html
