Requesting #gardening advice. I want to try potatoes this year but it has been so rainy. I'm reluctant to put the seed pieces in. Am I being too cautious? More storms are coming in this week. #NorthernIllinois

Thanks to everyone for the good advice! I have reserved a loose soil area for the potatoes experiment so I'll try putting some in this weekend. Perhaps I'll hold back some of the seed potatoes just in case a replacement batch is needed. 🙂 #gardening

@mariekung rainy is ok, if your soil has reasonable drainage. Really cold is not.

@mariekung how clayey is your soil? If you have decent drainage I’d definitely go for it

@mariekung If it's too muddy to till the soil, you can put cut seed pieces on the soil surface, and cover with mulch. The yield is comparable to burying them in the soil, and it's much easier to harvest.

@mariekung I'm hoping for a stretch of 4 to 5 days so the ground can dry a bit - once I get that, I'll start them, as long as I have good draining soil, it should be OK?
