@jfr_1980@mastodon.social @lineageos@lemmy.ml @keepandroidopen@techhub.social SaifishOS is a closed source OS bringing the lack of privacy and security on desktops to mobile. SailfishOS began working with Putin's regime in 2015 after his initial invasion of Ukraine. They closely worked with the Russian government for years. A Russian state enterprise had near majority ownership of Jolla. They only began seriously trying to split away from Russia in 2022. It's still the same people with the same values who made a deal with the devil.

Only very small portion of actual OS isn’t fully open? Someone could say it to be blatant lye to say it is closed, when only UI is closed. It is true that Jolla did business inside Russia 2015-2021, which wasn’t smart, but so did everyone else. So blaming just them is weird. And they wanted to get out of Russia before 2022 invasion. Russian state company owned around ~20% at its peak of Jolla. I wouldn’t round that to be near majority… Facts straight next time?

  • @jfr_1980@mastodon.social @lineageos @keepandroidopen@techhub.social Putin was busy killing off political opposition with assassinations and working towards destroying the EU while they were closely working with his government for years. SailfishOS is largely closed source so it can't simply be forked, but the Russian government has a fork of it called AuroraOS since they were partners. Jolla claims to no longer be involved with Russia but it's the same management who worked with them for years. Keep an eye on that post-war.
