Why does every site try to get me to install an app that is just their site in a browser?

Easier gathering tracking data and allows them to give you notifications to increase engagement. If you were looking for an honest answer that is. I hate it too.

One reason (of several): so that you can’t block ads I’m assuming you are using a mobile browser. Switch it to desktop mode to put a stop to it.

Use Firefox focus and firewall level ad blocking. Takes care of 90% of this kind of bullshit.
