A lot of maintaining a repo is kind of like being a librarian. You are largely a knowledge keeper. Yes, you also write code and fix things, but you're kinda like the go to person for "does this already exist? Has someone brought this up? Did anyone try to do it? Why can't we do it this way? If you were to do this, how would you go about learning how to do it?" and for the most part, that's fine. It's chill, fairly easy (if not a little taxing) work, but it really all falls apart when someone comes in and they're rude to the librarian. ...because unlike the librarian, no one is paying me to maintain that FOSS repo, so if you're mean to me, I'll eventually stop going to work, and slowly but surely the books will become a mess. You won't be able to find anything. You won't be able to ask why something is the way it is. There will be no one to take and index donations. There will be no one to hold anyone accountable for returning any books. And eventually, the library will fill with various critters, because there will be no one to close the doors or windows. Just please, I beg of you, be nice to the librarian. Don't make them hate books or you won't have libraries. #foss
