I finally got around to reading the actual government amendment on intimate image abuse and it’s very far from sensible. It creates a government register of intimate image abuse images and places a registrant in charge of them and the subsequent automatic censorship will occur via forthcoming Ofcom guidance. https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/cbill/59-01/0416/amend/crime_rm_ccla_0413.pdf

Off the top of my head this could be very bad for victims if any data breach exposes them as a victim or the actually images or hash. Bad for everyone when false positives or bad hashes proliferate through the system. Bad for small independent providers of services who have to somehow comply with it and the duties.

We're going to make victims submit photos they want blocked to some registry for "review" and then hashing? And then there will be magical wishful thinking by dint of ofcom willing something into existence to somehow force every device on the planet to not allow files with matching hashes of some sort to be shown in a way that will somehow be effective whilst having absolutely no false positives at all
