I was looking at a bug trap we have set up to catch spotted lanternflies, an invasive pest. It's a sort of net cage that is easy for bugs to fly in to, but difficult to fly out of. Looking at it from a few feet away, it's easy to see how to chart a course out of it, were one to be trapped. But if you're in it and don't know about the big picture, you're stuck. Been wondering if we humans are in the same kind of trap. If we are, the efficiency and effectiveness of language and communication are probably the "big picture" we're missing in terms of how to escape. Many concepts in science and sociology become very straightforward once we figure out how to communicate them.
