(I'm slightly shocked that anybody thought ANC was an available acronym, but that ship has sailed.) Cyclists are metal in meatspace and meat in metalspace. Meat in headphones is entitled to blunder blithely in meatspace. In ped/cycle shared spaces, the onus is on cyclists to keep their distance. It's interesting to observe the cultural evolution of *cycle*space. In the Netherlands, meat has to treat cyclespace as if it were metalspace and metal has to treat cyclespace as if it were meatspace. In Glasgow, meat wanders into cyclespace without looking, never mind hearing, because meat doesn't understand cyclespace is a thing. Meanwhile, metal just fucking parks in cyclespace, or occupies it at traffic lights. Or opens car doors into it. Or... In other words, meat treats cyclespace as meatspace and metal treats cyclespace as metalspace, and only metal is safe (except from having been the arsehole). We have no cyclespace culture, which makes cyclespace dangerous for all who sail in her. And we have hills.
