A propos a throwaway line on TV— Do Post Offices in other countries (not Australia) also stock a bewildering variety of cheap kids toys, as-seen-on-tv nonsense inventions & accessibility aids, keychains, and fad tchotchkes? I must know!

@s0 not all in the UK, but a lot of them do (they're often integrated with corner shops or minimarts).

@s0 not really, in Germany. Just some office supplies like printer paper, envelopes, maybe a little stationery, a stand with gift cards for amazon and stuff, and of course branded cardboard boxes for parcels. Maybe a handful of more or less topical novelty items like rfid-protect wallets.

@s0 post offices are extinct in NZ, at least so far as I'm aware, so yes in the sense that they're a counter at the chemist where at least some of those things may also be sold nearby. In my dim memories of the real thing though I don't think so

@s0 No? Many Canadian post offices have been stuffed behind a counter inside a pharmacy, and that pharmacy stocks a bewildering variety of shampoos and snacks.

@s0 Czech they have toys of buses, holiday calendars, cute sticker books, and lottery tickets.

  • @s0 Not in the USA. Here, they only stock Post Office-logo mailing supplies, and a rack of crappy greeting cards.

@s0 They were moving in that direction before dhey instead decided to close like 95% of all post offices and set up shop in supermarkets instead. 🙃

  • @s0 generally not in the US, in my experience.

@s0 no at least not in America. There might be one or two that are weird, but everyone I have been to, it's a no.
