The most interesting talk from #39C3 to me so far is 'CSS Clicker Training: Making games in a "styling" language' by Lyra Rebane https://media.ccc.de/v/39c3-css-clicker-training-making-games-in-a-styling-language about abusing CSS features to create UIs that are unexpectedly elaborate for CSS+HTML (no JS). I enjoyed the talk very much because while I heave heard of and used some of the presented techniques, I didn't know how far people take the idea of repurposing #CSS features to create interactive interfaces on web sites without JavaScript, including games. The game Lyra presented at 39C3 at the end of her talk is CSS Clicker: https://lyra.horse/css-clicker/ It's one of those browser games that you leave running in the background until you have collected enough tokens to build or buy something new, which will increase the rate at which you gain tokens, and so on. There was also a talk by Lyra at BSides London 2025 where she focused more on security aspects of CSS tricks. http://youtube.com/watch?v=INgS4IipEhU
