@dillo 1) someone thinks that can solve that with the Gemini protocol. Others think that a "small web" approach is a preferable solution. 2) Probably a mix of both. Ads can be acceptable if they are not intrusive. Surveillance capitalism should be banned. 3) It would be nice to reuse the old hardware for as long as possible. 4) What is a DOIs?

    @zbrando I'm afraid neither Gemini, Gopher or the "small web" would fix the current problems with LLM crawling bots or slop content, which could also surface there eventually. > What is a DOIs?     @zbrando @dillo On (2), I don't think the rational middle ground will be reached. If there is money to be made, a company will optimize profit and ad intrusiveness (just enough not to drive visitors away). Alternatively one can see the money matters as a problem from the economy (people facing increasing external pressure to profit), not the tech itself.
