@tim from this end: who you follow or not or unfollow is 100% up to you(*); likewise, how much you post or like or boost or neither is 100% up to you. Some people post a lot but don't reply much; some people don't post much but boost a ton, and (no doubt) some people just read (except that we never see them). Your experience of the community is whatever and however you make it. (*) Some people (not me) give a different status to "mutuals": if you follow me and I also follow you, we're mutuals, and in that case, if you unfollow them, they may also unfollow you. Also, some people like to exercise more control over who follows them; those people, you "request to follow" and they will approve you or not. In that case, having something on your bio that looks as if a human is behind the account may be helpful.
