Characters talk about being "in it for the money" and how it sets themselves up much nicer than those who work back home. in this way, the legacy of Giger, O'Bannon, Shushett, and Scott is scifi that eschewed contemporary techno-orientalist paranoia in favour of a much darker idea: a future defined by West Australian values
