Why is no one questioning the utter stupidity of someone going to a pub with items of such extraordinary value in a bag? The thief did the wrong thing and seems to have been in drug addiction and possibly homeless, as well as unemployed: but surely Rosie Dawson behaved in a stunningly irresponsible fashion? Man jailed for stealing handbag that contained £2.2m Fabergé egg - BBC News https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj6098jngryo

@HarriettMB I’d agree. Not that bagsnatchers aren’t a pain, but throwing him in an overcrowded jail, confined to a cell 23 hours a day, is going to achieve what exactly? A tidy parable for an unequal society.

@HarriettMB That's insane and most insurance companies would consider her contributory negligence to be a factor 🤷

@HarriettMB she also put the bag on the ground‽ Even if it hadn't been stolen, it could have been stepped on or kicked. Just for the laptop alone, that would have been bad news.

@HarriettMB Why is nobody looking for how she benefitted from this? I'm sure she cant be that stupid, she must have a motive. (It's possible I watch too many crime series on TV)

Absolutely right, @HarriettMB. I can't find words for that degree of irresponsibility

@HarriettMB I said exactthe same thing when I saw the story in the news. The owner should have arranged proper secure, insured transport & the woman should not have just had it in her bag and gone to the pub. If the thief had taken any other handbag and got caught he probably would have got a small fine and community service. Poor bugger sounds like he needs help, not prison.
