In honor of Apple's 50th, here's my favorite early coverage of the company, from the Palo Alto Times. 21-year-old Jobs on computers: "It's like a car. People don't use them just to go places. They're used for other reasons, like to impress other people."

@bzotto@sfba.social Was he *really* a part-time physics student at Stanford? Or was just doing some "research" there? It sounds like a thing that Steve might have said for reasons, like to impress other people.

@bzotto@sfba.social thanks for finding this. It's scary that much of the world is still enamored with the Cult of Jobs these 50 years later. Perhaps it impresses some people. What impresses me is folks who get the most out of hardware for the longest time, keeping it out of landfills and dangerous recycling practices for as long as possible. I have always felt the same way about cars, too. Cc: @mxp@mastodon.acm.org
