@JizzelEtBass @KatyElphinstone One strike, and Uta Frith is out: “Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder, which is to say that there is some pathology in the brain existing from birth. Some people object to the word “disorder”, but that’s what I would call it.” Want proof somebody can be both a professor emeritus and a dumb arse? Look no further. Let me help you, professor, because you are clearly long gone and lost in your field: All Autism diagnosis is purely behaviour based. That’s because we currently have no generally accepted neurological model with a reliable diagnosis. TLDR: There’s no brain scan to show autism. You freaking say this yourself! So either come up with that, or stick your “neurodevelopmental disorder” where the sun don’t shine. Oh, wait, second strike: “Twenty years ago, behaviour geneticists came to the conclusion[…]” blah blah two stupid behavioural examples. I too would like to live under a rock for two decades and still claim relevance in my field! Anyway, from the research that does exist and is actually current and backed by data, there is building evidence that an autistic brain is more highly connected, with more neural plasticity, and statistically more brain cells in general. Actually, genetically, autism aligns pretty tightly with high intelligence. But let’s keep using “disorder”, because humans evolving with a “more developed brain” scares the living daylight out of the normies. Also, as we know from other research into disabilities, the solution to people suffering from disabilities, is often if not always to be found in accommodations on society’s side. Maybe stop trying to make us “useful” cogs in your stupid world-destroying patriarchal machine by bombarding our senses with attention economy shite designed to numb and dumb, and start actually living, thinking and connecting as a grown up emotionally developed human being. Try it, we (and you!) might like it! You’ll see a gigantic drop in what is called coping mechanisms, and probably in the “unprovable” masking too. I also think you’ll see mental health across the population improve dramatically, but that’s just a guess by a layperson. I don’t think we have to hold our breath for any change of mind though, because Frith is openly and strongly aligned with keeping everybody in society right where they belong. Which brings me to strike three: “Because of various cultural factors, the spectrum has gone on being more and more accommodating. And I think now it has come to its collapse.” I’m sorry, but I can almost see the eye rolling when referring to “cultural factors”. Is that a sexist dog whistle, or a race or a class one? All of the above? [editor: yes.] But really, nobody should trust the expertise from anyone who’s claim to fame is a test developed with Simon “Theory of Mind” Baron-Cohen*. Nuff said. /End rant. *) all of these people are of ill intent and live off BS: https://psycnet.apa.org/fulltext/2019-75285-001.html
