Every goddam high-flying aircraft might be from Russia and Newcastle was an obvious industrial target. A 19yo me was somewhat traumatised when, as I walked up Bolton Street Newcastle one night, a jet screamed above in low cloud, and an almost simultaneous explosion lit up the sky.
