  • On paper, ICE “holding facilities” are temporary transit nodes. Because they were never intended for overnight or extended stays, they completely lack beds or basic hygiene infrastructure. They're designed to hold people for a maximum of 12 hours during transfers between larger facilities. In June, 2025 ICE extended the amount of time people can be held in these small and unequipped rooms to 3 days. In June 2026, a federal court order reestablished the original 12-hour limit.
