On paper, ICE “holding facilities” are temporary transit nodes. Because they were never intended for overnight or extended stays, they completely lack beds or basic hygiene infrastructure. They're designed to hold people for a maximum of 12 hours during transfers between larger facilities. In June, 2025 ICE extended the amount of time people can be held in these small and unequipped rooms to 3 days. In June 2026, a federal court order reestablished the original 12-hour limit.

  • The reality on the ground is far worse than either of those time frames. Reporting reveals that ICE is routinely violating their own rules. Whistleblower photographs expose severe overcrowding, overflowing restrooms, air vents choked with visible black mold, and human beings forced to sleep on concrete floors or in chains. These rooms (around 170 across the US) function as a dynamic shadow layer of the regime’s deadly deportation agenda, using deliberate obfuscation to subvert due process.
