New on the blog: How Firefox renders web components. Specs say what should happen but I wanted to learn what a browser engine actually does. I followed a custom element through Gecko's source, from the registry to the reactions stack to the flattened tree Stylo styles. Every step is a figure you can step through and replay. Got an e-mail this morning for one of my classes where a student let me know they wouldn't take the test today because they didn't feel ready and would take it at another time…not asking mind you. Telling me. (The answer was of course no and please let me know when you're struggling in advance.) Not something I ever could have fathomed doing when I was in college. Kudos for moxy I guess!
