Question for #Bookstodon .... I'm looking to migrate away from Goodreads (luckily I didn't get too far into using it). Hoping for something very open/non-corporate. Thoughts on #Bookwyrm vs #Openlibrary ? Bookwyrm seems to be missing a lot of books. And the work to add them seems a waste when I can go upstream to OpenLibrary. OL lacks the social features but Bookwyrm seems very uh... basic & kinda ugly. 🤔 #reading #books

🐦 TIL: Across 5 European countries, matched male and female researchers walked toward #birds in parks and green spaces. On average, men got about one meter closer before the birds flew off. The pattern held in #Czechia, #France, #Germany, #Poland, and #Spain, across all 37 species checked, from #magpies to #pigeons. Researchers agree that the birds distinguish men from women but can't yet say why. 👉 https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/10/261021231250.htm #behavior #ecology #sci...

🐝 NEW: Researchers watched pollinators for 93 hours at five #Cambridge sites, each within 300 m of a #honeybee colony. Where hives were dense, other #pollinators were scarcer, and honey #bees won most encounters, pushing, chasing, and displacing rivals on bramble and ivy. One exception, the invasive ivy bee, sometimes fought back and won. 👉 https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/10/261021231227.htm #bumblebees #hoverflies #beehives #beekeeping #ecology #climate #climatechange #flowers #co...
