arXiv Is Rate Limiting Submissions Because It Can’t Keep up With AI Slop arXiv, an open-access repository where researchers publish preprint academic research, has announced it will rate limit submissions because it has been inundated with AI-written papers. A researcher can now only send in two pieces per calendar month and have a total of three active submissions at any given time. In a blog post about the change, arXiv said AI has made it too easy to spam the publisher’s inbox and its volunt...

#health #child conclusion is stark: the same planetary forces reshaping weather patterns, pollen seasons & wildfire regimes are also amplifying the environmental triggers that push a child’s reactive airways into a full-blown exacerbation. The review focuses on three intertwined exposures—air pollution, temperature & relative humidity—and asks how each is being modified by a warming atmosphere, & why children sit at the sharp end of the resulting health burden https://bioengineer.o...

My own work doesn't have a lot of libel or defamation risk, but occasionally I edit books that toe that line. This is a very good intro to US libel and defamation law for authors and editors. #AmWriting #editing #books https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmLUMTAydDY

Some interesting ideas to bring up during your next discussion on Medicare for All in the US with someone who's a bit skeptical but not set against it: * would likely lead to more small clinics thriving rather than consolidation and buyouts * better access to healthcare in rural areas https://yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/p/medicare-for-all-separating-the-slogan

I have heard the advice to make slow runs truly slow and hard runs truly hard, but I hadn't really run slowly enough. So I set my watch to heart rate instead of pace this morning and tried to stay in Zone 2. It was so hard! And boring as hell! Even the dog was bored and looking for squirrels to harass. Runners, how do you endure Zone 2 slow (not medium-paced) runs? Podcasts? Music? Zen states? Or did you just get used to going slow after a while? Or give up on it? Advice welcome! #run...

@annmlipton Lol, sometimes I think "defend the state's honor" is the primary reason most gov attorneys file anything in court. It would sure explain a lot of otherwise inexplicable legal battles!

@lawprofblawg is this a more common thing than I knew about???

@weirdwriter At the very least, it seems to me that website authoring tools and social media apps should be able to read that field to provide people with a starting point for writing alt text! I mean, sure, alt text typically needs some customization to match the intent/purpose of the image in context, but at least using that field as a start would make it much easier to customize.

@JamesLonghurst@historians.social It's OK. The documentary camera crew that accompanied them carried extra water for everyone.

For those who have been following the issue, the Columbia Law Review website is now back online again—and it includes the controversial article by Eghbariah along with the following statement from the non-student Board of Directors after their attempts to get the student editors of the student-run law review to change their minds apparently failed: https://www.columbialawreview.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/STATEMENT-FROM-THE-CLR-BOARD-OF-DIRECTORS.pdf #law #scholarship #Columbia #ColumbiaLaw
