  • How many ways could this possibly go wrong and then who will be held accountable when it does? "For instance, users can set Custom Rules that tell it exactly what it's allowed to do on its own, what it needs to ask permission for, and what it cannot do. To perform sensitive actions, such as changing a password or deleting data, users must give explicit permission. • they’re having a normal one they are definitely a stable platform you can stake your business on

  • you know that thing where Google yells at you that your storage is almost-full, but doesn't do shit to help you identify what's taking up space? (Because they want you to get frustrated and just pay $25/yr or whatever?) TIL that DaisyDisk has *excellent* tools for scanning/deleting those files:

  • Normally I'm all "yay congrats on shipping" but it brings me great joy to see that HEY Calendar looks like complete visual dogshit, like it was designed in powerpoint by a consultant This is what happens when half (?) of your staff walks-out-on-the-job because #Basecamp leadership was getting Pretty Fucking Racist. Eat shit DHH!

  • > "Nightshade transforms images into "poison" samples, so that models training on them without consent will see their models learn unpredictable behaviors that deviate from expected norms, e.g. a prompt that asks for an image of a cow flying in space might instead get an image of a handbag floating in space." HELL yeah, this is so cool. https://nightshade.cs.uchicago.edu/whatis.html

  • What I hope the sideloading thing reveals is just how shit the App Store has become. Imagine a SetApp-style store, with only good apps allowed, and an all-in-one bundle price. (Meanwhile the App Store editorial tab is just endless ads for Roblox or “games for non-gamers” or whatever else.)

  • #Seattle has a few surveys up for public-comment on the police department's proposals to install CCTV, junk-science gunshot detection, and whatever the hell a "Real Time Crime Center" is. • after my son died, there was a rotting stump in our yard - put my anger into digging it out by hand. Planted a cherry tree; pink was his favorite color. This week, it’s blooming.
