OK, so now that it's pretty much done, I have thoughts about the #Platner nomination. First, clearly there is a huge appetite in the electorate for people who sound like they want to fight hard for big changes. The reason the Wall Street #Democrats hated Platner was because he was not them and threatened their comfortable existence. They don't want to fight their friends across the aisle and resent being told they should. 1/ #USpol #politics

@troy_frizzell@mstdn.social If it's only about policies, why did Platner gain so much traction while the other progressive candidates in Maine didn't? hint: Because part of Democratic voters are very susceptible to the lies of a white charismatic man who pretends to be working class. And he wasn't even good at lying. His lies were so obvious. Why they fell so easily for his "rugged masculinity" is something they absolutely need to investigate. The very same people absolutely nitpick every female candidate's flaws while Platner's horrible scandals got the "Well nobody's perfect" or "That's just purity testing" treatment. Just pretending now that "they fell for his lies and are not to blame" is not going to cut it. Having the goal to "listen" more to women and people of colour is fine, but absolutely not enough. Former Platner fans need to ask themselves difficult questions about masculinity ideals, about himpathy, about white privilege (No way a candidate of colour would have survived that many scandals!). #Platner #USpol

I remember the first time I saw Platner. He gave an impressive speech that hit the right notes. But I immediately noticed the polished production values of the video. It was •too• on the nose. Whenever I see something like that, I immediately wonder who's funding it. The Democrats can never resist spending extra money and polishing up the ads when they are running a fake leftist. Always look for signs of wealth! Also, I have to wonder if almost ANYONE who runs for office is a potential rapist. It almost seems like they would have to be, at this point. #politics #platner

So, Graham Platner is finished. Serious attention will now turn to who will replace him and by what process. The big question will be whether a progressive Democrat aligned with the ideals and policies that Maine voters nominated, or an establishment corporate Democrat aligned with Chuck Schumer, is installed. At present it looks very possible that they will try for an establishment Dem. How will Maine voters respond? These are uncharted waters. #Platner

Y’all, we need to talk about Graham #Platner. I’ve been saying since he miraculously appeared on the political scene, that like #Fetterman, this campaign was a psyop. Like Fetterman, Platner comes from lots of money. He went to the best schools, his parents paid for him to take a gap year touring Europe, he chose to serve four combat tours, 3 in #Iraq with Marines and then joined the army to kill in #Afghanistan, and THEN joined #Blackwater. He had an #SS #Totenkopf on his chest for 20 years and tried to claim he didn’t know what it meant. He has a long, documented, history of abusing women. This populist bullshit story about being an oyster farmer is easily disproven. He made 5k selling oysters, to his mom’s restaurant. That’s just sad. Just cause someone says they’re on your side, doesn’t mean they really are. I've not exactly been secretive with my disgust towards Platner. I pray to god he drops out and seeks genuine therapy instead of trying to run for office. I also pray for his victims who continue to be told their stories aren't worth telling by his supporters. #platner
