In Northeast India, in the state of Nagaland, orb-weaver spiders are considered a prized source of protein. This information emerges from a recent study published in the journal Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems. According to principal researcher, Lobeno Mozhui, of the University of Nagaland, “edible spiders occupy a significant place in the local diet and have been consumed for generations.”
Researchers interviewed 33 individuals experienced in the tradition of consuming two species of orb-weaver spiders: *Nephila pilipes* and *Trichonephila clavata*, known locally as siyankyü in the Lotha Naga language.
