So I had the pleasure of driving the new 2006 #KIA #EV 4 whole day today. It was black like the one in the pic. Here are my thoughts. Its had really nice upmarket (black/white) trim inside, it looked like a supercar, and though it looks like an ordinary sedan, up close, it feels like a premium car. Inside, it continues the premium sporty feel, the rear window is narrow, like on a Ferrari or some Porches. Really nice battery range (500km) Its "Ai" voice recognition is actually usable, far more so that the clunky MG one. Handling is smooth, but I found the design, perhaps intentionally, feeling more like a heavy, tanky car, like a Mercedes. Still enough acceleration, but not as much as I am used to. Really nice (although initially confusing) ' blind spot' camera thats somewhere in the rear bumper, facing forward. KIAs if you didnt know, are the EVs that 'sing' at low revs. I find that feature particurality Cyberpunky ❤️ Overall, a really nice, 'heavy' EV thats a little bit showy with good mid-range distance capability.

Yesterday, I mentioned that later-generation Hyundai Sonatas didn’t come to the UK - although earlier versions did. This car isn’t a Sonata but it has a Sonata connection - it’s the original Kia Magentis, which is a lightly modified fourth-generation Sonata, thought to be the first example of Hyundai/Kia platform sharing after the two companies combined in 1998. I snapped this 2001/2 Magentis at a Kia event for UK journalists last year. #davidsdailycar #Kia #Hyundai #WeirdCarMastodon

#ManualTransmission #Cars have become enshittified in recent years. There is almost nothing out there that's like a small hatchback with a < 2l engine, naturally aspirated, yet which has a top gear that lets you cruise at around 2500 RPM at 100 km/h. The worst offender I found so far: 6-speed #Kia Souls. The overall ratio of 6th gear is about what 4th gear was in the 1998 Honda Civic DX hatch i had years ago. Why would I want to flip through 6 gears, just to get to 4th? And then continue driving in 4th after hitting the freeway? #FacePalm So far the only thing I found with non-sucky gearboxes are #Mazda 3s. They are a little large. Mini Coopers are good also, but they are finicky about fuel and built by BMW (expensive parts, maintenance, issues, ...).

It turns out that while the #Kia Soul has ridiculous manual gear ratios, Kia redeem themselves in the Rio. The 2018 Rio5 LX manual has a decently high 6th gear, allowing cruising at around 2500 RPM at 100 km/h. The engine is 1.6 l, naturally aspirated, rated as producing 130 hp. Hatchback, small engine, no turbo, tall overdrive gear: approved.

Weather was ok (-6C, low wind, sunny) today, so salt-n-shovelled a working patch of the driveway to fit the ramps. Pulled the #CDV from the #Kia. Not really stated anywhere, so for info a 2017 #Forte LX 6MT [Canada] indeed has an external slave cylinder next to oil filter. Easily removed. Clutch is much more direct, traditional feel and no longer shags me up. Also tightened oil plug (slow leak) and pulled/relubed driver door lock ~ no more graphite powder. Silicon spray lube now.
