Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has expressed a desire to attend his father's burial ceremony in Mashhad on July 9 and personally recite the funeral prayer, according to NYT, citing two IRGC members and a person involved in the funeral preparations.
However, the sources said Iranian security officials have so far opposed the plan, fearing Israel could attempt to assassinate him at the ceremony or use his appearance to track his current location.
