Norval Morrisseau expert tells court Indigenous painter's family were ‘critical to the success’ of rampant fakes. "Cowan’s lawyers are presenting a case that his actions are not cultural appropriation because the Morrisseau children — the beneficiaries of his estate — themselves authenticated and promoted forged works for financial gain. The defence is also alleging representatives of the estate assisted in authenticating fake Morrisseaus and are benefiting from the proliferation of forgeries." Norval Morrisseau (1931-2007), an icon of the Indigenous art movement in Canada, is recognized for his vibrant creations highlighting diverse cultural aspects of his people, while making powerful political statements that continue to inspire awe and admiration to this day. #Art #IndigenousArt #ArtFakes #NorvalMorrisseau https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/norval-morrisseau-expert-tells-court-indigenous-painters-family-estate-were-critical-to-the-success-of-rampant-fakes/article_e4e0a6ca-e4c1-42a6-b80c-4b5dd65ea419.html

I don't think nearly enough attention has been given to how amazing astronaut Jeremy Hansen's mission patch is. Designed by Henry Guimond of Sagkeeng First Nation in Manitoba. Read more about it here: https://www.asc-csa.gc.ca/eng/missions/artemis-ii/jeremy-hansen-patch.asp #ArtemisII #JeremyHansen #HenryGuimond #Sagkeeng #AnishinaabeArt #Indigenous #IndigenousArt
