Raid in Caltanissetta, three people arrested for allegedly introducing at least 18 mobile phones and drugs into prison using a drone.
A car parked for a long time and not far from the Caltanissetta Prison, with the lights off and three people on board. That was enough to capture the attention of the mobile radioabinieri (carabinieri), who, after detecting something that didn't seem right, intervened and arrested the three people on board – namely a 29-year-old man and two women, aged 29 and 31, originally from Puglia – for being found in possession of what investigators described as a small technological arsenal.
Inside the car there was also, in addition to the passengers, a suitcase containing a professional drone and numerous accessories. Eighteen smartphones, divided into three envelopes, a coil of steel wire, 300 grams of hashish divided into doses, and €13,695 in cash scattered in various denominations were also found in the vehicle.
A shocking find that, for the officers, had only one purpose: to supply some inmates present in the prison.
The charges and measures
The three were arrested on charges of illicit trafficking of narcotics in conspiracy and unauthorized access to communication devices by inmates. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Caltanissetta is coordinating the investigations.
The Preliminary Judge ratified the arrest and ordered imprisonment for the 29-year-old, and house arrest with restrictions for the two women.
