Pretty close to the "entrance" to our camp at #Blissfest2026, there was a tree stump that we decorated as a temporary surface. And took care to protect the moss from stray footsteps. The moss was not alone though. This fungus is colloquially known as "Dead Man's Fingers" and the scientific name is _Xylaria polymorpha_. It's a saprotrophic fungus that often grows on dead or dying wood. They are not edible, so I recommend you do _not_ put these digits in your mouth if you feel the urge. Some species are associated with black root rot in certain trees (like apple, pear, elm, etc), but mostly they are essential decomposers. #Blissfest #KatPics #Fungi #BeautifulDecay #Moss #Nature
