The first day of the #BattleOfTheSomme was in 1916 on #ThisDayInHistory. A hugely bloody affair even by #WorldWarI standards, Britain alone lost 19k killed & 40k wounded that first day. By the end of the campaign, 300k+ soldiers had been killed among one million total casualties.
