Is Batman really the best bat-themed protagonist? There's also the legend of Batboy, the half-human half-bat supposedly living in West Virginia. Danille Corsetto (author of Girls With Slingshots) wrote a print comic series about Batboy, so arguably Batman isn't even the best bat-themed comic protagonist.
Batboy also wins in terms of who makes the best musical theater protagonist. Starkid's *Holy Musical B@man is* is good, but Laurence O'Keef's Batboy is great.
