No other state relies more on #ACA federal tax credits than MISSISSIPPI: Last year *98%* of enrollees received the enhanced subsidies to make their health insurance premiums affordable. Result of those subsidies being dramatically slashed this year? Nearly 25,000 couldn't even afford to sign up...

On average, Georgia #ACA enrollees went from paying around $2,100 apiece last year to over $4,000 this year. That's more than a $1,900 avg. increase *per enrollee* in 2026.

On the one hand, avg. full-price #ACA premiums were already over $900/month on average last eyar, so the fact that they "only" increased by 12% (to $1,030/mo) isn't that impressive. On the other hand, thanks to the state subsidies, *net* avg. premiums are only going up about 7.6%...

Short version: Prior to the #ACA, individual market health insurance premiums were indeed far lower on average than *unsubsidized* employer sponsored insurance. HOWEVER, most of that was because pre-ACA, indy insurance generally *didn't include any protections or coverage requirements.*

The good news: This is knocking avg. net premiums down by around $460/yr per enrollee. The bad news: Even with that, the 277,000 CO #ACA enrollees are still paying an average of ~37% higher premiums & ~19% higher out of pocket expenses, or over $1,200 more apiece this year.

Like some other states, Colorado has passed emergency legislation to generate ~$100 million for supplemental #ACA subsidies to help mitigate the lost *federal* tax credits which Republicans allowed to expire back in December. They're providing up to $80/mo in extra subsidies to ~70% of enrollees.

Update: I should note that California has also been quietly covering the mandatory $1/month "abortion rider" fee for all #ACA enrollees for years now, which means they're technically covering another $12/year in net premiums per enrollee. In Arizona specifically, #ACA plan selections during the 2026 Open Enrollment Period dropped by a whopping 15.6% vs. OEP 2025, with nearly 66,000 fewer Arizonans signing up. The ~357,000 who did, however, were hit with more than a DOUBLING of their net premiums...

Alaska saw their #ACA enrollment drop by over 9% out of the gate, with over 2,600 fewer residents signing up during Open Enrollment this year. The ~26,000 who did so are paying over $1,400 *more* in premiums plus a slight increase in their out of pocket expenses in 2026...over $1,500 more total.
