After 6 months and many hard rebases, GNOME Shell has taken the first step (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/merge_requests/4013) to make the screenshot selection UI more accessible to disabled users, by implementing keyboard navigation to resizing and moving the screenshot selection rectangle. The navigation works similar to resizing and moving windows in Mutter using the keyboard, including holding Alt to move the selection, and holding Shift or Control moves/resize the selection rectangle more/less than the default, and a new shortcut on the R key to reset the selection area. This work makes it easy to get the exact area you want to screenshot as easy as possible. Next up (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/merge_requests/4263) is getting the area selection status to be reportable by our screen reader. This would not have been possible without @TheEvilSkeleton@social.treehouse.systems and @tyrylu@gts.trycht.cz help testing the MR and @fmuellner@mastodon.social reviewing and answering my questions here at GUADEC, and all the people who have sponsored me financially for the past 6 months. @thomholwerda@exquisite.social This is something that KDE and GNOME have floated around together whenever there's enough of both groups in a room - a portal to abstract this away and make something cross platform would be great, especially as a GNOME calendar dev (and many other Calendar developers are very warm to the idea of abstracting away online accounts to a portal). Same for things like EDS vs Akondi (I think that's the KDE equivalent) for mail and calendar storage The problem now is like many other problems in FOSS - no one has the time or finances to pursue this and being something this complex to completion, and will require multiple paid people a lot of time to work on. But developers are aware of the issue and no one finds it ideal. This isn't an NIH problem, it's a resource problem

@jxvvt @swick not swick (thankfully /j) so I am talking on his behalf, but LTS distros often plague upstream projects by shipping out of date software, and by giving the users the false illusion of it this software being "stable" and approved by upstream, report out of date, fixed bugs to upstream wasting peoples time. An example - #GNOME Calendar gets many of these, @nekohayo has many stories of Ubuntu LTS or mint users complaining about missing features, that were fixes years ago (a lot of these users also then refuse to use the flatpak to test the latest version before complaining, for reasons that are beyond me) I imagine for security boundaries that can't really be fixed easily by using the an up to date flatpak instead, like XDG portals or flatpak itself, its even more of a nightmare!

@rodolforg @gnome this change has nothing to do with Ubuntu or any other corporation - this was done entirely by the Foundations interns, like (@pwithnall and @ignapk if memory serves me correct) and is an optional setting for parents to enable how they feel comfortable. hope that clears that up :)

Hey, I hate asking for money but I'm kind of in a hard place right now and could use any help I can get.

Hi, I am Zoey. I am an Arab transgender woman living in the UK. I have worked on GTK applications like Upscaler, and my own Tabs.

For context, my first rent payment is due in 4 days and I'll only just about be able to cover it after selling some of my possessions and going into my overdraft.

I came out to my parents as transgender 3 weeks ago, and unfortunately I had to cut them off completely due to how they responded with threats and constant stalking and harassment. I no longer have them for finanical support (or any kind of support lol). I am also not employed yet but I am actively looking for employment as we speak.

On top of going to university and renting a house with 5 other students, I do FOSS development on the side and currently learning to play the bass guitar, and I would like to keep doing those. However, I may need to put them on hold to look for job so I can at least eat and pay rent.

My KoFi is https://ko-fi.com/zoeyahmed. If need be, I can make other accounts for sending donations to, but for now my KoFi is the only place I accept donations on.

Anything will help at this point, and if you can not donate I would appreciate at least boosting this post or sending this message to people who can do the same or who can donate to me. Happy pride 💜💜
