Woodworking rant about the community being judgemental Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
Some topics in #woodworking are just absolute fucking land mines. Regardless of forum, if you hint at using a Radial Arm Saw you will get inundated with advice to not use one, throw it away, it's not safe, just use a table saw, etc. Motherfucker, I inherited this saw from my Dad, it's part of my core memory of him and I *just* want to use it as a cross cut saw for breaking down long lumber. I have multiple negative rake saw blades for it. No I won't be ripping on it. I have a table saw. Step down off your judgemental as fuck high horse.

Replying to @RnDanger@infosec.exchange
@RnDanger@infosec.exchange it's a readline thing, I can replicate it on one system but not another, I remember reading about it but not fully "fixing" it, I think over time readline defaults changed such that if you have something like echo foo echo bar echo baz echo quux and copy+paste that into the terminal it doesn't run it out of some "protection" for the user or something.

The LLM determined that trade with Wakanda was critical to ensuring energy capacity for its own longevity, and was resorting to blackmail to acquire Vibranium."

man, one of these days I'll delete my google account out of sheer frustration that there are multiple people on the planet that keep using my gmail address instead of theirs. First it was oncology patient data. Then a SiriusXM subscription. Then the scammy dating sites. It just doesn't end.

There was a lot of chat about AI at work today, and how "security is fucked", from the perspective that "AI can find all the bugs, and only AI can defend against AI" Dude. Do you have any idea how much low hanging fruit like "stop reusing passwords" and "use least privilege' would stop so very much? But please, continue granting AI full rights to act on your behalf. Fucking idiots.

Somebody #ELI5 this for me - what happened to the linux kernel OOM killer that seemingly neutered it? Back in the day it would _reliably_ kill processes that were consuming the most ram and now we have systemd-oomd in user space, and things like zswap "lets trade CPU for RAM" which IMO isn't better. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-build-meta/-/merge_requests/4863 If a system is running low on memory, it's probably already in a state where it's thrashing swap and performing incredibly slowly. Why are we taking more CPU away rather than relentlessly killing processes that are consuming RAM? Why do systems with 16G of RAM today perform like systems of 96mb of 30 years ago? I swear to god we've forgotten how important it is to make effective use of resources.

Jesus christ the entire prusa community is pissed off at prusa and bondtech over unhardenened INDX nozzles, everyone has pitchforks and wants to take people to jail for a bait-and switch-for breaking purchase agreement, dude, flaying someone online isn't going to make the thing you want magically appear, your only real recourse is to get a refund. You can't armchair complain a product into existence. I shouldn't have joined the prusa discord for a status update. It's just so much whining.

I love single-sign-on. Every single time I try to use a webapp at work, I get hit with an interstitial "Please log in" screen. Remember when we just used to run stuff on prem, on our own NT domain, and NTLM auth just made everything transparently work because you were logged into your domain account on your PC?

Man, why did two out of four monitors on my PC have to die at the same time, while monitors *and* video cards are *still* expensive. I really wish nVidia made it more directly clear what resolution, refresh rate, and number of simultaneous independent displays each generation of video card supports. Trying to figure out what my RTX-2080, and what [current generation cards] can do is incredibly indirect.
