I'm sure you are - but is it one of the allowed exceptions? Daniel is (mostly) right here.

(I went from Github to Codeberg but for the really private stuff I wouldn't put it in the cloud anyway so I run my own Gitness too)

@NotErsichtlic You completely misunderstand that message. It simply says that your reply won't be visible for the original Bluesky poster unless you yourself bridge your account.

Nothing about moving anywhere.

Remember those posts on how Mitre declined assigning a CVE for an IoT exploit I identified and disclosed here a bunch of months ago?

It turns out Mitre did change their minds after I had explained how it could be exploited and thus it did get published through the CVE process after all. Just now.

@littlealex@infosec.exchange "At first I only had negative feedback when I posted new additions to my collection, later on almost every post where I showed some exotic hardware. Some little brats flooded my DMs and kept saying that I should check my privileges before I bring something like that."

wtf!

I'm very sorry to see you leave. We have exactly the same interests and I am lucky to not have experienced the same feedback as you have.

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange To the question of what they do with the data we enter - it covers something as simple as sending what we type into the address bar to third party search services.

To me it mostly sound like just the legalese someone tasked with "make sure we're ok license wise" would come up with.

No, there's nothing in #Firefox' new ToS that has me change browser, yet. The edits might mean things could change in the future, but any switch will be as easily made then as it would be now.

@dangoodin@infosec.exchange Or maybe we actually need to come clean about how _good_ alternatives will never be as "simple" as the bad ones - and stop claiming they must?

It is harder to run your own web site than to use Substack. It is more difficult to set up your own Matrix server than to create "your own" Discord "server". It is more difficult to drive a car than to ride the bus.

Your union should accept that it's up to them to use the right tools for the job.

I run a Matrix server for my family. Once it's up and running (trivial for anyone who's ever hosted anything) the usability is most definitely on par with Slack et.al. My elderly parents have absolutely no problems navigating the Element X client fluently.

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange I think what I'm looking for is some sort of UX clearly showing the difference between "this information is outside of your home and personal devices" and "the rest". We take a photo with our phones and believe the photo "is in there". We might have a vague notion of there being some sort of backup but it doesn't cause us to pause and think about the implications that our photos can get into the hands of others _without_ them physically taking our phone. We should be able to do better.

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange "one bad click" 2) "years ago he used Google Photos to store an image of the secret seed phrase that was protecting his cryptocurrency wallet" 3) "Google Authenticator by default also makes the same codes available in one’s Google account online" next person: 4) "I put my seed phrase into a phishing site" This is not a post about people being dumb, on the contrary. It's too easy to put trust into the wrong apps/web sites - and that's where the real issue lies. The lesson should be: Your data is not safe in the cloud. Stop putting pictures, codes and security backups there.

@jschuh@infosec.exchange The link sent via SMS could be the final 2FA verification click needed to approve an account transfer, with the rest having been setup beforehand. If so, the account itself might already have been compromised. (Always assume leaked re-used passwords) caveat: I have not gone through an Amazon account transfer

@mmasnick Thank you! You've changed my opinion on #BlueSky with this post. Also, maybe you intended for this to be the obvious conclusion of your own, and if it was I agree. It won't matter if we use BlueSky, #Mastodon or #nostr in the end. Content will mostly federate freely inbetween the protocols. As an example: If people ask me if I'm still on #IRC the answer is "yes", although for me IRC channels are just additional #Matrix rooms nowadays.
