Work in DFIR, teach/author for SANS.

Interests used to be lots of CTFs but I have zero spare time now. Other than that its all down to gardening, looking after my animals and keeping my herd of cats company.

I've sat in on loads of interviews in the last few months with #DFIR/#SOC candidates who don't understand the order of volatility. So I wrote a quick LinkedIn post about it:

!!Cybersecurity Job seekers in UK or Spain!!

There is an awesome cybersecurity role, for a mid-senior (L2/L3?) SOC analyst for a great team looking after global security in a complex environment. The role is remote but you must already be based in the UK or Spain with a right to work in that country.

You will get to work with some incredible people and for an awesome boss. The hours are good, with (currently) no expectation of shifts or objectionable hours and the pay is excellent. The organisation is committed to staff development and will give you the chance to use some cutting-edge security tools.

The ideal candidate will have a good technical background and absolutely requires experience working in a SOC. You will be expected to work without supervision and be able to move beyond existing playbooks and respond to situations where the full security stack hasn't been deployed. You will be expected to understand common attacks and know what to look for in the early stages of an intrusion. Importantly, you need to have a clear idea of when you will hit your current limits and escalate to L3/IR.

⚠ Important Note: I am not the hiring manager. You will not work for me. I do not select the candidates. I am not a JLL employee. You can only apply via the link below, so there is no point in sending me your CV as it will just make it look like you haven't read the post. ⚠

Recently, I've asked questions on BlueSky, Twitter and Mastodon.

Most of the time, the fastest and most useful answers come from Mastodon. Twitter users are, generally, most likely to misread the question and answer something else.

BlueSky, generally, doesn't get any response.

In the last month, I did some "AI" experimentation. I used ChatGPT 3.5 and 4 to write some marketing-style LinkedIn posts.

The content they produced was (to me) pretty awesome tbh. It felt a lot better than anything I could write. I posted it to LinkedIn and, really, the response was very lukewarm.

So next I wrote some myself. Now I am not good at this, but I tried to put some words into sentences. The end result did not read as well (to me) and certainly felt less appealing. I posted it to LinkedIn and in general, they got 3-5x as much interaction as a ChatGPT post got.

In addition, this was all pushing towards getting people to book on a course.

The AI posts resulted in HALF the number of signups that the human-generated posts got. Now I get that this could be because the human-generated posts came *after* the AI so might have landed on fertile ground, so I will try more experiments.

But really, *right now*, I think we are still in a world where HUMAN generated content is more popular with other humans. AI-generated content is very attractive to bots though.

I've found something I don't hate ChatGPT's output with.

Holiday planning.

It is surprisingly _acceptable_ here. If you do things like say "I have a weekend in Amsterdam at the end of August. I'd like to go to the Rijksmuseum for at least part of the trip. Give me an itinerary of things to do", it actually gives some good plans.

Does anyone know a good website where I can find a list of all the DIRECT flights out of Toulouse on a given day in April 2024?
